Pot/Luck is a dinner party meet up app that uses geographic and address information to match users with other people in their neighborhood. The core focus of the app is to introduce users to their neighbors to encourage community growth and solidarity.
People no longer feel like they are a part of their community. Living in a dense urban environment creates a well documented lack of belonging in the people who live inside of it. People isolate themselves for a myriad of reasons when they live in a dense urban environment. Whether it be distance, color, smelling, sound, or visual diversity; many factors keep us from making those connections. Pot/Luck’s aim is to help users break down those barriers.
I wanted to design something more colorful and playful, yet adhere to modern design aesthetics to get the user's attention yet feel familiar to use. I took color inspiration from a popular local restaurant's interior design: gold, red, black, and white.
I wanted to incorporate social media aspects to the app to encourage user engagement. I placed user driven photos in the primary areas on the main menu UI. By linking the user's social media accounts, the user can post pictures directly to their platform of choice and display the pictures through Pot/Luck.
Wanting to be sensitive to users dietary restrictions and general food preferences, the user can set up default food restrictions to dictate the type of foods they would like to be brought to their party, and are required to list all the ingredients in the dishes that they will be making.
The user have the option of either joining or hosting a party.
Depending on the whether you're hosting or attending, you have the option to prepare a main dish, or a side.
After attending the party, users can tag photos of the party through their social media accounts and have them be displayed to others in their area.
